Hidden paradise

The surroundings of Cáñar hide numerous treasures that are waiting to be discovered. To do this, we propose four routes that will take us to places such as Dique 24, the Puente Palo recreational area, Casa Foresta or Alberca de la Sierra.

On our way we will be able to see beautiful panoramic views of Órgiva and the north face of the Sierra de Lújar, as well as the Río Chico ravine with Soportújar perched on one of its slopes and the Barranco de Barjas.

Another place of singular beauty is dam 24, which has an altitude of 30 meters with a spectacular waterfall. Between chestnut and walnut trees we will walk through the remains of old mills before skirting the canal that supplies Soportújar and which, together with orchards and threshing floors, announces our arrival in this town.

We leave Cáñar along the Camino de las Viñas to reach the Barranco de las Peás which, after crossing it, we will continue until we reach the Barranco de los Jarales, formed by the Seco or Sucio river. Approximately one hour into the walk, we will begin to ascend the path between oaks, mulberry trees and pines until we reach the Llanos de los Jarales. After a stop where we will enjoy the splendid views, we continue to the Cortijo Plantío and further on to the Las Balsas area, beginning our descent. After passing through the Venta de los Herraores, we take the Camino del Mimbrón that will lead us to Lanjarón.

Sulayr: Tello – Puente Palo

The section that corresponds to our route connects the Casas de Tello with the recreational area of ​​Puente Palo. The tour runs through such beautiful places as the Lanjarón River, the Loma de Cáñar, the Acequia de las Encinillas, the Hoyas de Cabrera, as well as one of the most interesting landscapes in the Sierra Nevada, the Robledal de Cáñar. In it we will come across the Casa Forestal de Cáñar before reaching our destination: the Puente Palo recreational area. The Pico del Caballo and the sea horizon of the Mediterranean are some of the privileged views that we can enjoy on the itinerary.

After parking in the area of ​​the Hostels – Hoya de las Moras we start our tour. Along the way, we will have the opportunity to see the source of the Monachil and Dilar rivers, as well as places as beautiful as the Collado de las Yeguas and the homonymous Lagoon, in addition to what is known as the Lagunillos de la Virgen because its crystalline reflections waters the Tajos de la Virgen.

On the way we will obtain spectacular panoramic views, however, it will be the Elorrieta Refuge, in the Tajo del Nevero and at more than 3,000 meters high, where we will enjoy the best views, with the Lanjarón Valley being its main protagonist. The Sierra de Lanjarón with the trails that cross it, the Peñón Colorao, and the Cerrillo Redondo, take us to the last section of the route that runs through the Robledal de Cálar and the Alberca de la Sierra, among other places, before concluding in Cañar.
